Forest Co-op Jack Pine Dominated Succession Project
The objective of this project, known as the "Forest Co-op Jack Pine Dominated Succession Project", was to investigate and summarize trends pertaining to natural succession for the jack pine-dominant standard forest unit and to develop inputs suitable for use in the Strategic Forest Management Model.
The project employed a photo chronosequencing approach to sample forest succession in over 200 stands across northeastern and northwestern Ontario. Each of the stands were linked to growth and yield monitoring plots, including Forest Co-op Permanent Growth Plots, to provide ground-truthing benchmarks for photo interpretation and empirical information about the site.
The project was carried out in conjunction with the preparation of a graduate thesis by the lead researcher at Lakehead University's Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Environment.
